What is the minimum model of used Intel Mac Pro or Macbook that you would consider adequate for editing? I have a friend who is a film student. He has a G5 (which is basically worthless, right?) Mac Pro and an old, old copy of Adobe Premiere. He should be able to get the latest Premiere at a really good price since he is a student. I assume the G5 and old Premiere is going to be useless for HD editing. He's on a budget, so it makes sense for him to buy used. What models should he consider, and what prices might he expect to pay? I'm not too concerned about RAM/hard disk as these are inexpensive third-party upgrades. I'm a software engineer with a lot of hardware background, so I can help him out with "creative" solutions. Are Hackintosh's dead? Are there issues with installating Adobe software on one? I mean, geez, I could put together a pretty decent system with a high-end workstation motherboard, and I've got a lot of spare parts that could be used - e.g. rackmount case, power supply, etc.
