Order the 16” M1 Max that comes with a whopping 140w usb-c charger.

I rarely go mobile outside the home with my laptop. But, for those occasions that I do decide to venture out, Im wondering what the minimum wattage for a charger would be using the TB4/USB-C ports?

With improved battery life, I’d only need to charge while sleeping (I.e., not using the MBP). Would say an Anker 65w Nano II work? How about a 45w charger?

The 65W charger is a great compromise between power and size. I travel with this, which includes 3 USB-A ports, 1 USB-C, and 1 USB-C PD port. This charges my iPhone, 2 iPads, AirPods, and my MacBook Pro.

[Edited to correct my math error pointed out by @Analog Kid :]
If you only need to charge while sleeping, you could probably get away with almost anything. If the 140w can charge to 50% in half an hour, then 70W should approach a full charge in an [edit] 2 hours, and 35w in [edit] four hours. Actual charging times will be longer since it slows down at the end, but the slower you charge the less this effect impacts the times.

Given the 16-inch has a 100Whr battery, you can use a 30W adapter and it will charge from 0% to 100% in about 8 hours, with the computer off.

If you want the battery maintained while using it, you would want at least the 96W adapter. Apple says the CPU is about 30W while GPU is 55W.

I think there’s a factor of two missing in here, but also the second half of the charge cycle will take longer than the first.
