I currently have a 64gb iPad 3G. I sold my iPhone 3GS about 2 or 3 weeks ago, in anticipation of possibly getting the new iPhone. My only phone has been icall on the iPad, and text msgs have been through google voice. I have only had 2 serious situations where i needed to make a call asap while out of the house. 1 time was a flat tire, and the other was to make a registration deadline. Other than that, every other call I have made has not been very urgent.

    I cant receive calls.

I travel internationally a lot. Wifi is normally available, but i have had trips where wifi was scarce ( damn you Germany!). Would you, if in this situation own an iPhone 4 and an iPad?

Current people with both, how do you feel owning them?

The one nice thing about the iPad 3G, is that you can get a micro-SIM for each country you visit. You can then ge a local data plan which is much cheaper than roaming. No JB required which is nice.

Also, with Skype being able to use 3G, your iPad may be able to solve your cell phone needs.

I have both (iPhone primarily for work) and they complement each other nicely - although I'd never read on the phone and will watch movies on the iPad if it's nearby. My wife has a Blackberry and iPad 3G and she wanted the new iPhone but after using the iPad she's downgrading to a simpler phone. You can buy a quad-band unlocked phone for next to nothing these days and pop in a SIM card wherever you are.

I also tend to travel internationally. I'm enjoying my iPad 3G and I will be replacing my unlocked iPhone 3G with an unlocked iPhone 4. It is most likely that I'll hop over to Canada (a short drive for me) in order to pick one up.

I own both, and I wouldn't give up either (for the purpose of saving money).

If you hardly use phones and just need one for emergencies, why not just get a phone that is just a phone? I hardly ever use my android phone now that I have the iPad and if I wasn't in a contract that included data for the next 20 million years, I would probably downgrade. I am kind of toying with the idea of paying the cancellation fee and doing it anyway. I'd save like $40 a month.

Well, I have always had an iPhone. I would enjoy the other features as well, like the camera for snapshots and videos. I do share photos and videos of my family activities with other family and friends. I also made use of several apps when I had the 3GS. When I think about it, not getting the phone would be more of a money saving issue. While the iPad has been working, it hasn't been more convenient. Only true downside is the few occasions where it would have been inappropriate to whip out the iPad.

I have a reservation for the iphone waiting today (finally), that Is why I through this out there.
