Just got my IPhone. In my address book and in my MM contacts, I have the display format for numbers set to "800.555.1212" yet the phone still displays in the standard "(800) 555-1212" format. How do I reconcile this?

That's how the iPhone formats your numbers. The only change you can make is how to recognize certain International numbers.
Other than that, you are stuck as is.
