Apple weather isn't an option because the weather forecasts are inaccurate - not sure how they managed to not integrate that piece of dark sky (which was the killer feature), but they did.

Missing weather underground. The paid version isn't too bad, and doesn't have tracking or ads.

Same. Here in Spain, predictions of Weather in iOS 15 were almost perfect. In iOS 16 isn’t accurate at all.

I have Carrot Plus and Hello Weather now. Carrot with Foreca is ok here, but the best option is Hello Weather with TWC source. I like Carrot app more, but I miss TWC source in it.

Just installed Carrot Weather yesterday as Apple’s weather program doesn’t have accurate temps for us in Australia. I like that Carrot allows selecting a different service should I wish too. The snark is definitely a match to my personality.

I used to sub to Hello Weather. Maybe time to check that out again.

The Apple app is getting better and is good enough usually. I do sometimes turn on RadarScope monthly subscriptions during severe weather season for features like hail and tornado contours.

The audiobook The Coming Storm by Michael Lewis soured me on anything Accuweather with their attempt to limit what NWS/NOAA could do with weather data (provide tornado warnings, release their own app, etc).

I'm sorry to say (for Carrot's sake) that the Apple Weather App does all I need it to do and it works nicely on the iPad/Mac OS/Apple Watch. I do miss the lightning maps and Apple Watch complications that Carrot provided and may go back.

If you want to use the NOAA forecast** this page is free and VERY helpful:

Note: this URL is lat/long specific. You need to enter your own coordinates.

If you want to really dive into forecasts, then Windy's "Compare" option is invaluable (I pay $20/yr for Windy). No one forecast is THE BEST, so one needs to be able to compare the major players (GFS, ECMWF, etc. ) and decide who is best given the forecast uncertainties. Personally since I use the weather forecasts nearly every day to make decisions, I find Windy's compare layout to be invaluable. Near term (next day) I find the AI models to be superior. GFS vs. ECMWF... not sure. I depends a lot on what type of pressure variances are at play.

For some reason Carrot does not give me the same forecast as the direct source. For example if I choose Accuweather, and then check the Accuweather app, the Carrot reading is actually incorrect.

Also the Accuweather app is terrible.

According to the forecast accuracy website, The Weather Channel actually is the most accurate for my location, which is what Apple pulls from. But the rain notifications are still unreliable. Dark Sky worked better. Carrot notifications work too but again for some reason the actual weather is not accurate.

Do you have a link to this "forecast accuracy website"? It sounds useful.

Many people are saying they love the 🥕 Carrot App. I'm sure it serves a good purpose and it's an amazing app but they need to come up with a better name. What kinda weather name is that? Carrot Weather app?

Does anyone know the history behind the name?
There is also Coconut Battery. I have often wondered about that name, myself.

Love the concept of Carrot, but I am not paying for basic services. I can use Weather Bug which is almost as good as Dark Sky was and it has so much available free content.

I've used Carrot Weather for years. The Apple Watch complications are the best in the business but it is expensive.

For Apple Watch: I love having sunrise/sunset on the middle complication on Modular - with a 5 day forecast. Not sure why no one else does this?!

I too have bookmarks for NOAA and find that to be extremely reliable and accurate.

Carrot's lightning map and other maps are great too. Love the custom notifications and ability to poll data from nearby weather stations.

Why does it cost? Because the weather APIs cost money and out of all the weather apps, Carrot does the best with notifications and keeping information up to date. If you aren't paying for it, your data/ads are.

This pretty much sums it up.

When I got my first Apple Watch many years ago, none of the weather apps I tried would update location automatically on the watch. So I tried Carrot and it updated locations. So I stuck with them.

Plus, I’ve been in the development process of Apple and Android apps. It takes time and money. Apple Weather is free because it’s Apple. They have the funds. (Personally, I’m waiting for the announcement that it will offer a subscription).

So if I need to give a developer a few bucks a year to maintain a really great app, then I will. Carrot is pretty accurate where I am via their sources.

Carrot is also redesigning their Mac OS app relatively soon and it will be Apple Silicon native. I'm hoping one subscription will cover for both apps. I already pay for premium ultra for the iPhone.

"Here Are 5 Top Weather Apps for iPhone" *If you're in the US. These are all US centric apps. If you're in the UK, for example the Metoffice weather app will give you a far more accurate weather forcast than one that is generated by weather service based in the US.

Time for Weather Underground to overhaul their app and take the Dark Sky market share back.

Weather Mate and Apple Weather

I just came across WeatherMate also. Love that it uses personal weather station data in your area. I was surprised how many there were around me. I have 9 personal weather stations in under 1 mile from me, 3 are half mile or under. It does not get much more accurate than that.
