Apple should have made the MacBook Neo razor thin, as it features an iPhone chip.

Now it is just a cheap MacBook Air.

Maybe should have hired Jony Ive for this one?

Anyway, still very good price, especially with the RAM, SSD and GPU crisis we have due to AI data centers buying up all the supplies.

yes, price is the best part.

just ordered mine for $499 (education).

it's still the same footprint as my current 12" rMB so I am very happy - will fit my seat table just right - even the color "picks me up"!

Can't make the chassis thin by forging. To carve out thin walls, they need expensive CNC time, which is used on Air and Pro. Besides, if it's extra thin, people will complain about throttling due to poor heat dissipation.

Im curious about ssd speeds as anyone who pushes these a bit will likely dip into the swap memory, so hopefully ssd isnt too gimped

It is the ONLY metal cased computer at its price point. Its design is good enough as is the rest of it for that price.

I agree. In a way this thing makes me angry. It's lazy, and for newbies and bargain hunters (not to mention the clueless).

And NOT for seasoned Apple junkies most of us are here. What we have here are apologists.

Way too many compromises.

I wouldn't call it lazy. I think Apple knows what they're doing with this. The second I saw the specs and the price I thought of a handful of people in need of a new laptop that this would be perfect for. I would buy this too.

if it would have been designed for "razor thinness", it would have a different (read higher) price point.
And it is not a cheap MBA, it is a new product class, low cost, entry level specs to compete with low cost
windows and Chrome laptops.

Very true!

Thin design like my 2015 Macbook Air 11.6" is the smallest of all Macbooks but I paid over $1100 back then.

I would have been perfectly fine with all the compromises had it been a 12-inch.
But the NEO footprint (size dimensions) are almost identical to the 12" rMB.

That size similarity will be perfect for my international travels and fitting on the airplane's fold out tables.
