Anyone know what the deal is with the missing box art? It's like it's only half finished with the little embossed outline of the phone but no colors, no icon, no "Apple" word or "iPhone" or anything... Also on the side it just says "iPhone" instead of "iPhone 5S" like it did last year...

This just seems so odd and rushed... Maybe these were meant for instore replacements or something that they pushed out as extra retail units?

I don't REALLY care, but it is super odd after like 7 years or something...

They didn't want to waste money on designing the box. That'd be silly. Just slap "iPhone" on it, and they're good.

It's probably just Apple's new design philosophy for packaging. We may well see the next MacBook come with such a box. It's certainly different, but I still like it. The current trend for most companies is minimalism (especially apparent in logos, like those of eBay, Microsoft, and Intel). Although it does make determining the colour a bit more difficult.

There's something wrong with my box. The embossed shape on the box looks and feels just like an iPhone 6. I thought Joni got rid of all of the skeumorphism.

See, I could kinda understand that a little and fine, drop the iOS and 6 or 6+ name from the box... But that top looks so empty. They could have at least centered the apple logo, maybe in the color of the phone, or "iPhone" or something... Or made the outline look a little more stylish. I honestly thought it was some place holding tray or something :p

Plain box contributes to faster production. Only thing a billion different box types does is slows down packaging. Generally I take the phone out of box and put box away until I sell phone.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I saw some gold iPhone 6 unboxing photos where the "iPhone" on the side was actually printed in a gold color. Nice little detail on an otherwise minimalist box.

Cost cutting measure. In an ideal world, the money saved should have been used to increase the RAM to 2GB. But hey nobody is perfect.
