I'm not sure if there was already a thread that addresses this problem...I've tried searching and can find only similar situations, but not the exact problem I'm having. I apologize if one already exists. If there is, please post a link for me.

My problem is when I import music from audio CDs into iTunes, the songs will appear in the Library part of the iTunes app....but when I try to look for them in User/Music/iTunes/iTunes Music, they aren't all there. Where are they being stored to if I can listen to them in iTunes, but cannot view them in the iTunes folder? I've tried the "Consolidate Library" but that didn't make a difference either.

Additionally, this problem happened to me today:
I put some music onto my iPod touch 2g (from iTunes), and when I went back to iTunes, a bunch of the music now has the exclamation points next to them, saying the files cannot be located. However, I can listen to all the music on my iPod. I'm getting confused on how it all gets stored on my computer. (I am using a Mac running Leopard and iTunes 8)

Thanks for any help you can offer.

you can see where the file for a specific song is by using Get Info. that should help determine where they are. if you have let iTunes organize the music for you, it should automatically take care of it for you when you import songs into itunes

ah yes....some of them were in a "Compilations" folder created by iTunes...geez...sometimes it's confusing how it gets organized.

but now i'm having a new problem....after i went back into iTunes, now there are whole albums that have missing files. arg....i will need to obtain the original CDs and just import them in again.

thanks for the help. i really should have looked at the info for my previous problem. thanks again!

Go to Preferences, and somewhere you have to turn on "copy to library when importing" or something different. Although I think that only makes a difference if you have a CD full of music in MP3 or AAC format, not for ripping audio CDs.

"Consolidate Library" will try to copy everything in the library that was imported but not copied into the Library; that will only work if the music is there, not when it is on a CD that is not in your computer.

...I'm having the exact opposite problem! I imported a CD and the files do physicaly appear in the iTunes Music folder, bu they DO NOT appear in the Library under Music in the left-hand column of the iTunes 8.1 interface. Any help for this reverse problem? (And I don't see anything under Compilations, plus I did a "consolidate library" too with no result visible.

Oh I wanted to add that another CD I imported IS showing up in the iT GUI list but the one that isn't was a British [IMPORT] CD . . . does this have any factor on things? Thx!
