Mission Control simply does not animate

Fairly disappointed by this… makes Mission Control fairly annoying to use.
Mission Control just doesn't animate. At all. Windows jump from their current position to their Exposéd position.

The hardware:
(MacBookPro3,1)

2007 Santa Rosa MacBook Pro, 2.4GHz Core 2 Duo, 4GB ram
NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT 256 MB

Anyone else seeing this on other models? Or the same? Hoping it's a simple gfx driver issue they will actually fix…

It'd be nice if I could just enable "old" Exposé from System Prefs.
