ML clean install on brand new HDD/SSD?

Once I have made a ML bootable USB how do I go about installing ML on a clean SSD? I want to take this opportunity to do a complete clean install of OSX whilst upgrading to SSD at the same time

First you install your SSD into your computer. And then you boot up from the USB drive and install ML. Not sure how else you could approach it.

connect a new (SSD) via external HDD enclosure and install ML from MacbookPro onto SSD ?
