I started it at 9pm Saturday night, used insomniac to close the lid and let it download all night and the frigging progress bar hasn't even moved 12 hours later at 9 am. called apple and even talking to a senior ML guy the best he could tell me was to take it to the genius bar or somewhere else and try to get it faster. and i have a great and fast home network. i stream netflix and apple tv video with no stutters yards away from my router. oh, and he says why don't i just ethernet it to the router -- and this after i told him i had a 2012 macbook air, which of course has NO ethernet port. he said well it could take days for it to download. the only reason i want it is for streaming. it just might be easier to buy that $10 app that streams and screw ML.

Where are you downloading it from? I downloaded it twice on Thursday night (as part of my clean install) and both times it took about 20-30 minutes to download and about 15 minutes to install. I have Verizon FIOS.

A good trick is to pause the download, then resume from time to time. I did it about 5-6 times while downloading ML, and I got it done in about 75 minutes..

it's now 4:30 pm on sunday and its only about 3/4 done downloading. totally bizarre. that's 19 hours so far. and i do have a good wifi

This is a problem on your end. Servers were fine. I downloaded it a few times in about an hour and a half, surely limited by my wireless and not their servers.

To OP,
Just as a sanity check, did you try going into System Prefs > Energy Saver and setting the Power Adapter's Computer Sleep to Never?

MBA constantly on charger?

Enough disk space?

Didnt do the system prefs but set an app that does not put the mba to sleep when the lid is closed. Did the same as prefs right? If so i think out at&t dsl slowed down. I plan to switch to cable

Here's the real kicker!!! figuring it was finally downloaded i went to the mba and ML was nowhere to be found. it was no longer downloading and it had actually disappeared. i called apple and spoke to a ML tech and we looked everywhere and it was gone. he couldn't figure out what happened and said my only option was to start downloading it again. UFB. anyone have any theories? there were no messages etc, nothing, zip.

Don't worry, you're not missing anything useful. This update should be free, it's a steal to demand $20 for 5 features (195 out of 200 they declared as "new" are for Chinese customers).

All i cared about was mirroring.

I guess I was lucky. It took me about 10 minutes to download on release day, and about 15 minutes to install. Go to a local Starbucks and use their free wifi, its pretty fast for a public hotspot.
