ML will not mount on USB drive...

I downloaded ML from app store and than copied installESD.dmg file to my desktop. When I try to restore on a fresh formatted 8GB USB drive I get the following error message: "Restore Failure. Could not restore - invalid argument". This happens after the whole process is almost over. I tried on my iMac and on my RMBP but get the same issue. Any help here?

This happens, even with Lion

Use Carbon Copy Cloner and use the restore feature for Lion. It works.
