What games are you experiencing this? I have to yet to notice any in the games I've tried out.

Absolutely nothing ? Quite a few things come to mind why the developer decided not to sunset the software. It sucks that we truly can’t just buy stuff and have it last for decades like we used to but that’s what happens when you have a market built on corporate capitalism. It’s financially in their best interests to piss off a few thousand people because a bunch of them will upgrade to the newer Apple TV, even though technically absolutely nothing stops apple from updating the app.
Cool well I don’t know what most of that was about but if the app came with the Apple TV at some point clearly it’s capable of running it??? Your cyberpunk example was funny and all but that’s not even the same thing and you know it.Absolutely nothing ? Quite a few things come to mind why the developer decided not to sunset the software.
And who says you can’t use old tech? I have a running windows 95 machine, but it won’t load the new MS Office or get me 100 FPS in Cyperpunk. I can use my 90s Nokia cell phone but I can’t run apps, maybe Snake! I can use my Sony trinitron TV but can’t run 4K on it. And yes I can use my Apple TV 3. I have it in the guest room. As with any older tech it doesn’t do things as well as the new hotness.
Read my previous replies on this thread. I really doubt MLB would want to lessen its install base if they could bring a good experience to the user. It’s a discussion had in every software dev house, when to sunset and EOL legacy support. And it always comes down to new software features and the limitations of older devices.Cool well I don’t know what most of that was about but if the app came with the Apple TV at some point clearly it’s capable of running it??? “Is it maybe that the new season is in 1 month and they wanna upsell with Apple?”
“Nah but my old TV can’t play 4K”
O…kay
I agree. If it can’t handle the latest capabilities, just don’t update it that’s fine, but keep it functional.I don't watch MLB and I don't own an AppleTV—but this really bothers me on principle. The age of the device shouldn't matter in the slightest; all that matters is whether it's capable of streaming video, which it absolutely is. It has been doing it for years.
Now a bunch of older AppleTV's are going to needlessly end up in landfills.
That’s one loyal fan right there. I’ve been suffering watching the Knicks for years, but they seem to finally be turning things around.I know ONE dude who watches EVERY Tigers MLB game on this thing.
It blew my mind they existed.
Right, but you can still use Office '98 and it will work just as well as it did the day you bought it. Now and also in a hundred years. That's why George R. R. Martin writes Game of Thrones on a computer running DOS.And who says you can’t use old tech? I have a running windows 95 machine, but it won’t load the new MS Office or get me 100 FPS in Cyperpunk.

In today's brave new world, it doesn't work like that. Basically everything you do on an Apple TV relies on someone else's server, running somewhere out there in the world. And so I think the operator of that server really ought to leave an older instance running.
I think there's a widespread, fundamental flaw with how we're building technology nowadays. Remember when TVs used to last for decades? How often did people replace their antennas? While it would be great to support legacy products indefinitely, it's not realistic depending on circumstances.
Yes but whenever they do changes on the mir servers they’ll have to test it on one OS less.It doesn't really though. The app existed, it worked fine.

I know this is an old thread, but screen mirroring no longer works. Now the MLB app says "screen recording not permitted". They force you to buy a new Apple TV. They did the same thing with the Tennis Channel app. It worked fine on my 3rd gen ATV and then suddenly they decided to no longer support it.I've found a way around this issue on my ATV3s...using my iPad Pro, I launch a game on it using the MLB app, then use screen-mirroring (control center) on my iPad and select my ATV3 from the menu. Results are much better than trying to use Airplay, which resulted in a highly reduced resolution and latency.
