I work at ESPN and might be heading up an iPhone app development. what would everyone want in an ESPN app?

Here is a screencap of a vid playing over WiFi:

Then about the same spot in the same clip over EDGE:

Obviously it's horrible over EDGE. Playing over WiFi is crystal clear.

Definitely the news headlines, and the ability to toggle by sport, just like the website with scores, stats, schedule, standings... all that good stuff.

You know what to do and what people want. Ask your PR director.

have been looking forward to reviews of this app. Looks slick! Don't care too much about the video, though espn-like game recaps would be great

I'd like to see something like MLB gameday, with play by play descriptions, detailed box scores, everything you want when you can't watch a baseball game.

Go Red Sox!

Customizable favorite teams/conference scores to load on the front page. I'm a huge mid-major college basketball fan and nothing was more annoying than having to go through 5 or 6 menu items just to get to the conference scores that i wanted to see on my current cell phone. If i could just click the espn app and have the scores i want on the main page, that'd be sweet.

Ok, this is funny

Skik, if you work at ESPN, you should be able to look me up, but I also work at ESPN and I'm actually in charge of mobile web and iPhone development. If you're wondering if you might be in charge of developing an app, you might want to talk to me :)

We just released our optimized iPhone site, please check it out:

http://m.espn.go.com/wireless/?iphone

Thanks everybody for the comments so far, we hear you and please treat the MLB scoreboard as a sign of what's to come for other sports. We're still tweaking the game view for automatic updates but the scoreboard is pretty solid and Ajaxy. Also, to the guy who wanted to be able to set his favorite college teams, check out the Favorite Teams section on the homepage. We'd love more feedback, you can write back to this forum or send it via our Help page. We support all kinds of phones but we wanted to do something special for the iPhone, and we hope you like it and that you'll tell us how we can make it better.

Also, I can tell you we're not doing an iPhone app yet, just the mobile web site, but who knows what the future holds?

Thanks --
Dan

50/50 chance Sprint is out of business by the time football starts.

LOL...I'd throw down a wager but I tend to agree. I finally ditched Sprint yesterday. Between that godawful piece of trash they call "Mogul" and the video problems I've had with the Touch, I wasn't into playing any more games with them. With nothing to lose I figured why not jump on the iPhone bandwagon so that's what I did. Buh-bye Sprint.

For the ESPN app, we need realtime scores like the ESPN MVP app provides for Verizon users. That thing was awesome, I'd be watching an NBA game on tv, someone would score a point, and it would show up instantly on the scoreboard on my ESPN MVP app. I don't want scores with a 30 second update delay, I want them in real time.
