I have an Apple TV and a Roku. Trying to watch MLB.TV. For three days now the picture has frozen or pixelated I have a very fast Brighthouse cable connection and an Apple Extreme router. I have hard wired the Apple TV into the Extreme. No matter what I do I can't get a picture I can consistently watch. Everything else I watch on the Roku and Apple Tv is fine. Just MLB. I hate to go back to cable for the games but this is ridiculous. Can anyone suggest anything?

I've experienced similar issues watching MLB on my ATV2 so I tried on different computers using different internet connections and I would get pretty much the same performance no matter what the tool used. On my end I think its just an issue with the service, I mean heck plenty of times while watching the game on TV I've had sound and or picture issues during games, don't feel this is any different and I don't let it boil my blood.

I've been frustrated by it at times for the past couple of years.

Last year I bought a Roku specifically for MLB.tv. It was promising - when it works, it's great and when it doesn't it's awful.

Exactly the symptoms you're describing plagued Roku last year (and to some extent, this year). I've seen it on both the aTV and the Roku boxes I own. It's *much* better than it was last year, but that's little consolation to most people.

I have found MLB TV to be very bandwidth intensive, I have had nothing but trouble on my DSL connection but Hulu and other streaming services play fine. When I longed into MLB TV at work with about a 100MBs connection it worked great.

it has to be related to the apple tv or roku box itself, because on the same wireless network i have never had any issues streaming it live on my imac.

From what I have gathered as a beta tester for the Roku product this year, and with my experience with Roku last year vs. the desktop they use different streams.

    Unfortunately, it's apples to oranges.

Today is the first game that I've really been able to watch at length (Yanks-Sox on YES)..and so far, I'm very impressed. HQ, no lagging, no freezing for about 7 innings. Normally I watch on my phone because I work nights, and I've had nearly no complaints.

I'm hoping this service works out the early season kinks, and deliver awesome quality for every game. It's an awesome addition to ATV.

How is the audio? Does it come out as Dolby digital 5.1 or stereo audio. I'm trying to decide MLB.tv or directv extra innings. The OP's issue has me leaning toward extra innings but was wondering what the sound is like?

It's an MLB.TV problem. I'm having the same problems with the PS3 app. They're aware of the problem and are working on a fix.

MLB.tv looks great on my MacBook and great on my iPad 2, but stutters and freezes on my :apple:TV. (all via WiFi, all on same network)

It's a bandwidth streaming problem. On the computer and mobile devices they were able to stream at a lower bitrate. But media center devices like the PS3, Roku, and ATV present more problems because people hook those up to large screen tvs which require higher bitrates for good quality and the larger screens also expose problems in the picture easier.

From what I understand they are working on their streaming method and promising to increase the bitrates as well but of course that could cause problems for those with inconsistent connections or just plain slow speeds. Same problems Netflix, Hulu Plus, and iTunes have had to work through when they made the jump to big screen tv streaming.

I'm noticing a lot of the same problems when trying to watch some of last season's archived games on the Apple TV. I subscribed last season and rarely ever had any problems with watching live games or replays, but so far this year, just about every game I try to watch drops down to low quality and/or stops for buffering pretty frequently. And it's not my network connection, either. I'm pulling 25mbps down, and all the other streaming services on the Apple TV work flawlessly.

Hopefully this gets fixed by the start of Spring Training.

I noticed it does get bad in the off season but as soon as spring training starts its better again. I don't know if they take servers offline to save money or what they do, but it'll get better.
