Anyone else having trouble playing games in the MLB app on Apple TV 4K running tvOS 14.4? I’ve deleted and reinstalled the app multiple times and I get no video, just a black screen with a throbber, on every game I try to play.

I contacted them via Twitter and got a response. They are "looking at my account." Thanks.

If anyone is interested, it turns out there is a bug in the most recent release of the MLB app for tvOS that is causing this behavior. If you set the default audio to the TV speakers the app works fine. Hopefully MLB will fix this bug soon.

I am having this problem.

Oh geez. Not this again. There was a longstanding bug last year that did the same. If you had your audio output set to HomePods, the screen would go black. Switching the audio to the TV fixed it. It took them months to fix it.

Don't get me started on the crappy scrolling in the latest tvOS app either. It's broken to the point that I dread having to rewind or fast forward to a part in a game.

There was also a multi-year bug in the iOS app while using CarPlay. The iOS MLB app normally keeps you logged in at all times. So, theoretically you should just be able to pull up the MLB app on your CarPlay equipped car stereo, select a game and feed, and then listen. This is how it works for every other app out there. However, the MLB app required me to open up my phone, unlock it, and reauthenticate first. Needless to say, this isn't the safest activity when you're driving. I filed several bug reports over the last few years and they never fixed it, until this year.

And yes I have emailed support, called them multiple times and such and still no fix. Its like they do not care about their TV OS app.

The MLB app is a travesty compared to what it used to be before the refresh ~2 years ago. It used to be fast, simple, and had a way to watch 2 games at once. Now it's convoluted, slow, and lacks any cool features.

Well if they don’t fix it to get it working again and continue to ignore my calls and e-mails I will start disputing my MLB charge. My TV is the main place I watch games due to the large screen and not some puny tiny iPhone screen as MLB only cares about!

last year MLB would show one game in Baltimore
then audio another 2,000 miles away in Arizona.

The MLB app on Apple TV is a absolute trash, after removing all the usable features in early 2021 release scarcely any have returned…

This irks me more than anything else. The app used to be so good. Literally, I would show it off to friends as an example of what a great multimedia experience on AppleTV could be. Now it's garbage. What did they gain by taking such a huge step backwards?

It no longer works at the moment.

According to MLB Support, the MLB app on Samsung TVs has an inning picker, I assume like the one that disappeared from Apple TV last year. It appears the app has different features on the various platforms, so there doesn’t appear to be feature parity across the platform. The information about the features available on the different platforms is only for MLB-internal, unfortunatel. Anyone have the MLB app on their Samsung TV who can comment?

I tried this on Samsung TV and the app zoomed in and out, then worked flawlessly.
the login was tedious and some features were missing compared to the mlb website, so i went back to that.

I get that message when I use a DNS IP address that puts me in a incorrect Geo-region. If I change the DNS then the game will play correctly.
