I had a couple usernames I reserved back in January 2000 when MobileMe, was iTools, before it became .Mac. They were variations of my name such as johndoe and johnnydoe (why did autocomplete suggest "joy nudie" when I typed johnnydoe?) that I set up as accounts.
Have those variation names been freed up? I know I have old hotmail accounts that go dormant and block email, but still allow me to reuse them once a year for my throwaway email addresses. What about the .Mac MobileMe ones?
I emailed one of my old accounts and never got a response

A friend bought a MobileMe account with a new Mac and recently let it expire. He asked me about the whole icloud thing, wondering if he will be able to get his old user ID again, willing to pay to have the old name (his real name) or what the possibilities are?
Anybody have any info?
