MMacbook Pro Freezes on start up.

I was gifted a broken macbook pro. I found out that if I hold I. The power button and plug in the power cord it will turn on...However. ..it freezes during the grey screen startup process.

This is frustrating, does anybod know what I should do?

Try starting it up in Single User Mode. Here's the KB article on it

Basically hold the cmd and S keys together as it boots up.

What model MBP and what version of OSX is it?
