oh how i love a nice mid-day nap. don't get the chance to do it often so it's a rare treat. if it's raining, that's just icing on the cake.

and if the mrs. is with me, all the better.

You know in some ways I'd rather nap alone (than with my GF) I think it's just that napping is such a like retreat from everyone thing....

That having been said, I have always enjoyed the naps I've taken with her....

Duff-Man says...I rarely sleep more than 4 or 5 hours a night so once in a while I like to take a nap for an hour or so. One of my cats loves it too - I can say to him - "I'm going upstairs for a nap" - and he runs up the stairs and jumps on the bed....oh yeah!

I don't sleep well. Almost never sleep for more than two hours at a time so I live on naps.

I often take a nap before noon. One in the late afternoon. And if I'm really feeling especially tired, another one in the evening.

That's what I've been doing for the past two weeks.

It's friggin awesome!

I'm a bit of a night-owl so I don't tend to nap all that often. If I did, I'm sure I'd be up even later until some even more ungodly hour than my usual 2-3am  Getting up for school is hard enough already...

When I do have a nap it's usually after I've worked a silly 5.30 in the morning shift. I get home, potter around for a little and then just HAVE to have a nap.

...and then there's the kind that leave you feeling a bit ruffled and confused. Sometimes you can wake up not knowing what time of day it is.

An added and highly enjoyable bonus — for me at least — seems to be crystal-clear and easily-remembered dreams. Good stuff.

The ruffled and confused type often happen if I've fallen asleep accidentally on the couch while watching TV or something. And I agree with dreams being for vivid and memorable!

Oh wow I couldn't live with out a nice nap...

On any day of the week its nice

Weekdays: After practice and school I come home take a good 45 min nap.
Saturday: After going for my 8 am run I come home and take a good 2 hour nap.
Summer time: Morning practice, nap, night practice.

I think I sleep a little to much for being 16

I'm more than a little concerned for all you that don't sleep normally. I mean if you prefer that, good for you, but some people really suffer from insomnia... ever thought of a new mattress or something that would help

Seriously, get some help if you need it!

:( Yeah, I'm looking into getting a sleep study done (they hook you up to different monitors and really creepily, there's a camera for the technicians/ health professionals to view you-- it can be for as short as one night or much longer).

It really is a drag-- to not sleep well. But even if I have a medical condition, it wouldn't be insomnia. On those rare rare mornings when I wake up after sleeping for a full five or six hours straight (not consciously waking at least once for that duration) I feel exuberant! I feel empowered and able to tackle any obstacle... but that happens maybe once a month.

I've always wondered about that -- I mean, I know in my sleep I can unconciously do some -- indiscreet -- things, depending on how good the dreams are. I think just knowing there was a friggin CAMERA on me would mess up my sleep patterns all by itself.

(apart from the usual, one time in my sleep in the hospital I managed to remove an entire dressing from the previous days surgical procedure -- we're talking about three yards of gauze... Nurse was NOT amused...)

During training for my sprinting, I barely sleep at all. Strangely, I find exercise as an amazing alternative to sleeping. Apparently it has something to do with the fact that the majority of sleep time is dedicated to your brain sorting out its daily problems. If I exercise, I do this whilst awake and so it's much more efficient.

man i sleep for as long as i want without interuption. If I say I wanna sleep for 14 hours and I have no worries about wasting the day, then I'm out for 14 hours. It's only when I'm really anxious about oversleeping that i tend to wake up a few times before I have to.

Naps... I had to get up at 8am to work yesterday, and I ahd gone to sleep around 3. 5 hours just doesn't work for me. I got home at around 6pm and before I new it it was 11:30pm and I was waking up on the couch. I crawled to bed and undressed and passed out until 8am!

I usedt o take naps when i worked a 40hr 9-5, on nights when I planned on partying, but I escaped from that thank god. So I usually get enough sleep without a nap.

I honestly need 8 hours a night to feel good. And I am always astonished how great it feels to get that full amount of sleep when I haven't had it for a while. I can't imagine how frustrating it would be to not be able to sleep.

I'm incapable of maintaining a normal circadian rhythm, I'm starting to think. I never know when I'll be sleepy. Last night I fell asleep around 1:30 AM, woke up at 4:00 AM, stayed up till 6:00 AM, slept till 9:AM. I napped at around 3 PM for about 2 hours, on the couch. It's nearly 2 AM now, and I'm not too tired, there's no telling when I'll go to bed and how long I'll sleep when I do. I've been sleeping for 4 hours lately, staying awake a little while, and then getting another 3 or 4 hours after that.

I'm quite an odd sleeper. My friends all make fun of me because I always fall asleep on floors. I don't know what it is, but I can fall asleep on a floor in seconds, yet when I'm in a nice comfortable bed I can toss and turn for hours and not feel sleepy at all. I'm also known for falling asleep in couches and cramped spaces. My friends snapped this picture of me in the dorm, asleep on the most uncomfortable chair in the world ;):

I've always been this way. It was even worse when I was a kid. I had pretty bad insomnia. I've gotten a lot better about that, but I still can't get control of my sleeping schedule and I still fall asleep in the most uncomfortable places but have trouble falling asleep in my bed. :)

Anything to do with the reason you found yourself on the floor in the first place?

Anyone else enjoy snoozing? Or are you a straight 6-8 hours every night vanilla kind of person?

Blue, the description of your nap was so soothing that I am now struggling to type this before nodding off on my recliner for a quick 10 minute refresher. We seem to be kindred spirits with respect to how traditional sleep has come to be defined. Vanilla is definitely not the flavor of the day for me. The last time I slept 6-8 hours through the night was during my high school days, a long, long time ago. It is official ... I am old!

One of the few benefits from working at home.

Who says you have to work at home to take advantage of this?

Seriously, when I was in grad school one of my professors (who has a Nobel Prize in Physics, so he's no slouch) would take a nap every afternoon in his office, door open, no worries. I'd say about 45 minutes or so. It seems to have worked pretty well for him.
