Well in having an issue with the mms. It seems like it scales down every message I receive to the point it's almost really hard to see. It all looks really grainy. My girlfriend has an Evo on sprint so the camera Is good but when she sends me pictures they look terrible. Same with my parents who have droids on the Verizon network. Does anyone have a suggestion or fix?

UPDATE*** when i send the MMS it gets to the recipient fine, doesnt look scaled down at all

Any media sent through MMS gets transcoded, and in many cases this means a loss of resolution.

Is it worse than before?

i hate to compare it to my old droid, but the mms on there was fine. The pictures looked awesome. But here on the iphone i cant even see the face of the person because its so distorted.

This has always been my experience with MMS, if you want good quality have them email the Picture.

MMS pictures come through just fine for me. wife and i both have iphones on verizon, and every picture she sends to me look exactly as it does on her phone. (and vice-versa) is it possible that the droid os is scaling the picture down before it sends it out?

Boys boys...calm down.

Each carrier, regardless of the type of phone, will compress MMS images to their own policy. Yes, even AT&T compresses images sent via MMS.

I've had some images I've sent from my iPhone 4 look great but then the next one look blurry...to the same phone.

So I'm not sure as to their rhyme or reason, but MMS messages are compressed.

No, it does not. The MMS I send with AT&T get to my sender are the same resolution they are sent. Likewise incoming MMS are the same resolution they are sent from X person.

Verizon's network is so crap they can't even handle an MMS and must cripple it to "make it work". Pathetic.

it works fine on every other device...the network is beyond crap, i enjoy bieng able to make calls :D

but im not sure why it looks the way it does when i receive and MMS on my iphone but on my droid it looked like the original quailty

So do I. In fact much better than my friend's Verizon iPhones. Downtown in Mardi Gras season and I can get signal everywhere check the web and talk at the same time. Friend's on Verizon can't even get data working. So much for Verizon's network.

Like I said, Verizon is not ready for the iPhone. They are just crippling the data in order to make it look like the network works.

I agree.
MMS is compressed, resized and quality reduced on every carrier.
Someone send me a video taken with an iphone 4 and the quality looked like crap, and screen size reduced alot.
Then I asked them to email it to me and quality was great.
So all carriers do it, maybe some reduce the quality more than others depending on the standards for MMS they have setup on their network.
But AT&T also does that, its just the way MMS has always been.
You should tell them to use email instead.

Sure it does.

Another nay sayer here.

You're wrong

I have to apologize for anyone doubting your knowledge to this issue. I am sure your 1 friend with a vzw iPhone really determines the quality of the network.
Again, sorry if anyone posted anything to make you upset or suggest that you are wrong. We all should clearly know by now that AT&T users are always right.

My apologies.

Remember, you're arguing with someone who repeatedly and tenaciously posted that there would never, ever, ever be a CDMA iphone, ever.

can we attempt to keep the thread on topic?

upon further investigation....when i send pictures they get to the recipient witout bieng scaled down (at least its not noticable) its only when they come to me...so i doubt the network is scaling down iphone pictures and nothing else:confused:

Actually, not only is that possible, it's sounding likely.

Can you post a pic, both original version and one that came through MMS?

Oh, how silly of me to mention just one case. I can go ahead and mention another 8 friends of mine all with Verizon's iPhone and all in different places of the States. Same result. Silly me, sorry for not telling you about more people.

And was right for 3+ years. No one expected the iPhone 4 to be on Verizon given that it was a mid refresh release. I was already contemplating and theorizing that Verizon would be getting the iPhone 5, but never the iPhone 4. So yeah, a tiny hitch I never expected.

Jcloud8, can you send me a PM with pics? The original pic and then through MMS.

No need to feed the trolls here publicly; apparently some people here are just interested in posting and not addressing issues.

I noticed it more with videos.
Try to send a video thru MMS and see how bad its pixelated and shrinked when it arrives to the other phone or iphone.

This is exactly right. A friend just sent a video to me via MMS (she has an iphone as well so the original video was taken with her iphone) and it arrived compressed. The video took up maybe 1/3 of the screen and it was totally pixelated and just crappy. She's on Verizon and I'm on AT&T.
