MMS only received when text is included?

Not sure where to post this so will try here first even though not strictly an iPhone issue. MMS is now working on my iPhone (3.1/5/1). A weird issue occurs when I attempt to send a MMS to a Blackberry that does not have a data plan but does have a text plan. If just a pic is sent in the MMS, it is not received but a notice is received on the BB that there is a message that can't be downloaded. If the same pic is sent with a text comment included, it is received normally, pic/text. Any ideas or a better forum to post to?

Yes, this is normal. I have a BB for work and when someone sends me an MMS to it, I get text but it can't download because MMS is blocked on it.
