Quoting myself from [1] from Jan 2021. And the rant on mmWave goes as far back to 2018.

No one in EU, UK, Canada, Australia, China, Japan, Hong Kong, Taiwan, South East Asia, are "planning" to have mmWave Network. How is that growing?

We are now close to 2022, for the past 24 if not 36 months media have been reporting mmWave support were pure fabrication.

And to those asking WiFi 6E. 6Ghz Spectrum is barely out in most part of the world. It was always too late to the iPhone 13 cycle. Again media likes to make crap up about WiFi 6E.

I wonder if we’re seeing the impact of the pandemic in play here. Maybe they were working on this last year during all the lockdowns and that’s why we have such a tiny update on the iPhone and the Apple Watch?

How are these frequencies being implemented in the UK?
Actually, what are the frequency allocations in UK/EU?

Edit. Quick shufty on the net of inter and not used in the Uk then by any mobile operators? That goes for the EU? looks like a feature to be implemented but needs a dense tx/rx set up?

No UK carriers have implemented mmWave

Honestly, can't even get 3G where I live, the local town has some spotty 4G signal - as I upgrade every year this is a total non issue for me. Also the UK doesn't even have mmWave support.

WiFi 6E would have been better, but again, I upgrade every year and I use Unifi AP's and I doubt they'll have a Wifi 6E compatible AP before the iPhone 14 either, so again, non issue for me.

At least in GB it still isn’t used for our 5G network, so it wasn’t going to happen here - not to let that get in the way of the rumour mill though, as I seem to remember at least one prediction we’d be one of the countries getting mmW this year 🤣

Darn, I was looking forward to non US YouTubers testing mmWave.

You know, where the YouTuber has to disclose they had to ask the telecom company where they could find the signal; then the telecom company telling them exactly which grocery store parking lot to stand in. (During cloudless days, touching one finger on their nose, and doing the modern day rain dance, but for 2Gbps speed.)

Bummer. Would have liked to see mmWave (26 GHz) in the non-US version (model A2638 for EU) and WiFi6e as well now that the 5945-6425 MHz is harmonised for WiFi in Europe.

However, the US version actually supports mmWave 5G band n258 (26 GHz band) so I guess if you bring that to Europe it would work where mmWave 5G is available.

Well it will be iPhone 11 for one extra year then. I am not supporting a company that treats every other country like second grade, selling them a worse product at the same price.

I remember when it was worth upgrading every year, all the way up to around the iPhone 5. Now things are much more relaxed, the product is so much more mature. It's fine to keep phone for a few years and give Apple a chance to make something worth while.

Are they holding back this and put everything in their own modem design for 2022 or 2023?
Wi-Fi and Bluetooth are in the Broadcom chipset, not the cellular radio SoC, so doubtful. If I had to guess, they just didn’t quite make the cut.

Disappointing news for those trying to future-proof themselves with the last mini model, but that’s just the way it goes sometimes.

That's honestly unacceptable. First of all, there should be feature parity across the world (unless local regulations won't allow it) since everyone's being the same thing and always for more than the US. Second of all, some people keep their devices for 4-6 years or pass them down to relatives so having them future proof is essential. Auctions for high 5G bands have already completed in several EU countries and thus implementation isn't that far off.

and THIS sort of thing is why I don't like Pro or top of the range. It is already a lot to spend on non-Pro. So much left out this year! Technology purchases....

It's a reminder that it's still early days for 5G.

I was committed to keeping my iPhone 12 mini for 5 years, until the news of the discontinuing of the mini, now it will be the 13 mini for 5 years starting next year.
I wouldn’t even bother with the 13 mini, such an insignificant upgrade compared to the 12 I would stick to your original plan

Who knows maybe the rumors are false and there will be a 14 mini. This round of iphone releases is so disappointing that I'm waiting it out until next year with my 5S and will make a decision then despite wanting to replace it.

Wait another year I suppose. No ( as per rumoured, albeit ) TouchID, Bluetooth >= 5.1, Wi-Fi 6e, mmWave... garbage.

To my knowledge there are already mmwave deployments outside the US, for example the far East (S Korea, Taiwan, maybe also HK), so while here in Europe it is not yet of much use, but it is inexcusable that Apple didn't make it available for at least those regions which already use it (apart from the USA)
