I love the idea of Mobile Me having just really looked at it last night. I want the functionality of address book/mail/ical being mobile and updated instantly.

My question is why can't my leopard server that i am running at home be updated to support this without the help of mobile me? I understand that i need some type of exchange server but I am new to using server and am learning my way around. Can someone give me a laymen's idea if or when i will be able to host my own data and update it from multiple machines?

same question

This is an excellent question... I hope someone responds... I was just about to post the same basic question... "What are the redundancies between Snow Leopard Server and Mobile Me?" Do I still need MM if I have SLS?

I can tell you that I currently have the mobile me service for my MBP and iphone... it's probably my favorite thing about the apple platform as a whole. I can add a contact from computer and it updates everywhere... I can add an event on my phone and it updates everywhere.

Hoping to hear something on this as I'm still trying to figure out how exactly to configure my macmini server and what to do with my MM subscription.

If you have an iPhone and/or a laptop that will be used outside of your home LAN, then MobileMe probably makes a lot of sense for syncing. I can tell you, the photo galleries are also quite nice.

If all you have are desktops, you can probably forego MobileMe unless you want to use the iPhoto/MobileMe web gallery integration.

Apple also has a new cert coming for 10.6 called Apple Certified Specialist - Security and Mobility 10.6.

This was not available until 10.6 and will result in companies using the iphone more effectively due to localized control over what the phone syncs to.
