well with Googles announcement that it will have push contacts calenders and coming soon googles GDrive does this spell the end of Mobile Me? I belie apple will take a huge hit i think apple needs to really stup up and probally do another overhaul on ME or atleast make a big discount on there price or i think Apple is going to lose alot of there members atleast to mobile me.

No, it's not the end. There are, probably, still quite a few novice users for whom MobileMe is useful. MobileMe may take a hit, but Apple will, in all probability, upgrade the service.

Besides, free push email, along with free push google contacts and google calendar, already existed, long before today's google announcement.

Apple better step up the game before my account expires, or I am off to google now.

As I mentioned in another thread, the Gmail sync is useless if you have Exchange, since you can only do one or the other. Since MobileMe has been working great for me, I'll stick with it and keep my home and work info synced up!

Not to mention it all depends on what client you use for your desktop email, addy book, calendar. I use Mail, iCal, etc and found that not all fields mapped between the Mac and Google's stuff. I had to buy SpanningSync for that. At least with MM, you get a better sync of all your data fields.

Absolutely - it has nothing to do with being a "novice" as claimed earlier in the thread. I wouldn't have MobileMe if I didn't have 3 Macs and an iPhone - as it is iDisk, Calendar and contacts syncing, Safari bookmarks syncing, Back to my mac, iPhoto galleries, one click iWeb publishing.... it all adds up and it all works - you can get "sort-of" equivalents from Google etc, but if you use OSX and you want all of the services listed, then MobileMe is good. Good value too, from what I've seen trying to price up 20GB of storage etc from other providers.

I think MobileMe needs improvements but its not that bad a deal if you really compare like for like....

Exchange hosted email is around $5/month
    Website Hosting usually $4/month
Total integration into iPhone and iWeb

Add in the iDisk, BacktomyMac and other things and it starts to become better...

Not saying by any stretch MM couldn't stand to be improved a lot ... it can ... but its getting there

For me the single best thing they could do would be to allow the domain name i use for my iWeb site to be used for my email ... they'd really have a killer product then .... i'm still considering whether i will renew my MM account, i would like domain name email but i know it won't save me any money to switch

I would be willing to bet there are experts out there who enjoy using MobileMe as well.

There are pros and cons with every service.

Yeah, I was reluctant to buy into MobileMe at first, but I've found that keeping 2 computers and my iPhone in sync with it is a hell of a lot easier than a mesh of a bunch of free services. I use my iCal a lot more, access my address book, etc. I've even started to slowly transition to using my me.com address as the main instead of my gmail.

Is it worth it? Not at full retail price, but I got a good deal on an activation code from a 3rd party amazon seller. At around 50-60 bucks, (so 5 bucks a month), its not bad at all.

I only have mobile me because i got it for free. Push never works with my iphone (I dont even know if its supposed to be working yet or not) and i dont really use any of the other features. I tried using the new file sharing the other day but the time estimate said it would have taken my friend like 4 hours to download 700mb file  he let it run for a while to see if the time would lessen but it didn't after 45 minutes so he cancelled it. And he has a pretty fast high speed connection. So really when my year and free 90 days is up in september i'm done with the service, Unless Apple adds something drastic or enticing to make me want to stay.

I've been a novice Mac user for 25 years. Maybe that's why I find MobileMe to be useful. ;)

Yep! I'm an Engineering and IT manager, and I use MobileMe for my personal mail. I have three Macs and an iPhone, and it is invaluable to me.

In fact, I upgraded to the family pack so that my kids could have their own easy to use email and webspace.

Sure, you could put together a bunch of free services and have them *almost* work as well as MM, or you could pay some money to have it all work pretty seamlessly. Since I spend all day fixing broken tech, it's nice to not have to worry about it when I get home.

Mobile Me is a pretty fine service ...

Most of the bloggers are getting it right saying that MM works just fine but there is always room to improve.
It's designed for the not so tech savy user in mind and even for most of them it so complex that they will never outgrow the service.
However , if you are a geek or tech guru you will always find other services that in part will do better or cheaper.
For me it's everything under one roof without goofin around and it does the job very well for what I need it.

HELP - MobileMe gives giving me problems

Just amazing. I'll input a number to a number in iPhone and then a few hours later find that MobileMe has erased the name or detached the name from the number and I have to reenter it. I'll connect my iPhone to my MacBook and I'll be asked to sync ALL my contacts. At one point all my contacts disappeared from my iPhone only to reappear. Is it not true that MobileMe is supposed to PUSH the lastest updates as time-stamped to all connected devices? It's really driving me batty. Anybody have any ideas?

You have a setting wrong in iTunes.

Make sure you have the iPhone and iTunes set to sync with MobileMe. It should never try to sync your contacts when connected to iTunes,

MobileMe is useless for Exchange as well. I can't sync my Windows work laptop with my Mac Pro at home using it. However, I can with Google sync.

It would be nice if come 3.1, you could post photos and videos from the iPhone directly on a MobileMe page/site.

I like mobile me a lot.

I just think that it needs to be a little cheaper, have a little bit more storage, and a little better web apps.

It will be competition, which hopefully will improve the market. I have mobileme and love it. It needs improvements and google may cause this. I have google too. It's market forces, apple will improve if they see a competitor and if people want to stay with them rather than a better rival then best of luck to them:)

I know that apple say that mobileme is for apple and pcs but how many problems are with pc uses ( this is by no means a criticism of pcs as I have one and sync it. Just curious to see the causes :)

    Wirelessly posted (iPhone 3G: Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 2_2_1 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/525.18.1 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/3.1.1 Mobile/5H11 Safari/525.20)

I have very few problems with Windows. I seem to notice more problems with the mac side, but there may just be more mac users.
