I just bought an iMac today.

I already have a Macbook Air complete with (Individual) Mobile Me syncing that and my iphone. Can I use the same mobile Me account on my new iMac so that I can sync all 3? Or do I need another license for the new machine?

No the mobileme is per user, not per mac(s)

You can use the one account to sync as many as you want. (I sync 3 macs and an ipod. its great!)

I sync a MacBook, an iMac, a Mac Pro and an iPhone with one MobileMe account.

Hmmm..well when I sign in on my new machine, on the sync tab, it won't let me put a tick in the pox next to Sync...

It only lets me do it when I sign out of one machine and then sign in again on the new one

You could try clicking the advanced tab, and then reset the sync data on one of your macs.
It should be (is) possible to sync your air with the imac.. not sure why you are having the problems you are.. good luck!
