Mobile Me username security problem

On a Mac, you upload pictures to MobileMe galleries using iPhoto; you don't use a browser at all.

Can iPhoto do this securely?

Yes, but viewing them is done through a web browser. So you might upload them using https, but the second it hits the web your pictures will be on a public http site.

I have no idea about the security of iPhoto uploads, & really wish this was an option.. However there is a option to password-protect individual "albums" within a Web Gallery... so I guess that end can be secure, at least.. 🙁

Not only can you password protect albums, but you can also make the images not downloadable.

Yeah, I guess that's some small comfort... although since my photos will be displaying fairly large on the screen, they make nice ... um... screenshots..... 🙁

Any photo on the web, whether secure or not, can be captured with a screenshot. I don't really see why you are fretting over the security of pictures you would post to web galleries. If you are afraid of people stealing them, add watermarks.

Right, of course you wouldn't understand why I would fret about this -- just 'cause you don't know what *I* "would post to web galleries". (me not being a graphic artist like yourself 🙂)

For me it's a simple privacy issue, not a commercial one... I don't really need to be watermarking snapshots of my own mug 🙂

(...and of course will make my friends overseas much more comfortable with uploading their own travel photos to my Web Gallery if they don't have to wonder about where else they may later wind up on the WWW.)

Yes, I do have a lot of privacy concerns, because the 'net offers a lot of opportunities for privacy to be compromised. If you "have to" ask, I guess I "have to" point out the assumptions you have made that would naturally confuse you here.

Apparently, you assume that I "want to put (my) photos on a public site, but not want them to be accessible by anyone." Where you got this idea I don't know, because I didn't say (or imply) it.

What I *do* want is to utilize MobileMe Web Galleries as a substitute for e-mailing photos to friends. It would obviously be much easier for my friends to see a lot of photos on a Gallery than it is for me to e-mail attachments to them.

Also, I have not been thinking of MobileMe as "a public site," mostly because it does offer password-protection for viewing of photos. To me, a password-protected Web Gallery is not "a public site."

Originally I had intended to use iDisk for this purpose (instead of the Web Galleries), but again, it's much simpler for my friends to visit a Gallery than it is or them to wait around for potentially rather slow downloads to arrive from iDisk.

He may have pictures of family/friends that he wants to share with other family/friends. In today's sad world, it's possibly unwise (for example) to post your childrens' pictures in a public area, as there are just too many sick people out there.
