Mobile Me Web Page failing to load... Any ideas?

Here is the error that I get when I try to log in using Safari 3.1.2 over Leopard on a G4 iMac (gooseneck).

Safari can’t open the page.
Safari can’t open the page “https://auth.apple.com/authenticate...dHVzLndvYS93YS90cmFtcG9saW5l&destinationUrl=” because it couldn’t establish a secure connection to the server “auth.apple.com”.

Anybody know why this is happening? This is on a guest account, but I can't see any reason why this should happen. It worked previously.
