I hate the name, I hate the logo, but I love the new feature set. As long as they let me keep my @mac.com email for a good, long time, I'll be happy.
I like it. Yet, I do agree that it is a little "girly". You have to remember that this is apple though. I'm sure they know exactly what they are doing.
First, it can't have an apple logo. If it does, many windows users would be turned away. I know the iphone and ipod has apple logos on it, but this is an interface. People may think its apple only.
Second, the logo reflects a clean, ease of use, and user friendly atmosphere. When people see fisher price logos like this, it hits the mind that this must be easy for anyone to use.
You copy other companies' websites?
I generally agree with the points you're making - but I find the elements of the logo confusing.
If this is a product for non Mac users then what are all the Mac icons doing there?
The Mail and iCal icons are clear enough, but what is the Address Book icon doing there - I'm not sure you'd realise what it represented unless you were already familiar with the Mac os Address Book app (the way it's shown here, it doesn't even look like an address book).
And what on earth is the sunflower all about? Why not a picture of a camera, or the photographic element of the Preview icon? It doesn't strike me as an obvious way of representing people's photograph collections.

It's a bit of a mess, in my opinion.
so from the looks of the responses apple should have named it Mobile Meh
Yea..I agree its a little too playful, but the marketing execs probably figured that more than 50% of the iPhone users are/will be women (hence the girly nature of the logo and the addition of the white plastic iPhone) Am I too far off here?
yeah.... I think mac.com sounds better for email too. Also, will emails directed at mac.com addresses automatically go to the me.com address?
In response to your comment...
MobileMe is going to be used for people with either just a mac, a mac + iphone, or a iphone + windows. Everyone with an iPhone can recognize those icons whether they have a mac or not. In fact, that flower icon is on the iphone itself. So, the people using this web application will definitely know what those are.
I meant if someone emails an email to my .mac address which of course ends with @mac.com, will it automatically go to my new @me.com address, or do I have to tell everyone that I have a new address?
It definitely had a "windows" feel to it when I first saw it. Which maybe is what Apple is going for. I'm not loving the logo but I don't hate it either.
