I like it. Yet, I do agree that it is a little "girly". You have to remember that this is apple though. I'm sure they know exactly what they are doing.

First, it can't have an apple logo. If it does, many windows users would be turned away. I know the iphone and ipod has apple logos on it, but this is an interface. People may think its apple only.

Second, the logo reflects a clean, ease of use, and user friendly atmosphere. When people see fisher price logos like this, it hits the mind that this must be easy for anyone to use.

I generally agree with the points you're making - but I find the elements of the logo confusing.
If this is a product for non Mac users then what are all the Mac icons doing there?
The Mail and iCal icons are clear enough, but what is the Address Book icon doing there - I'm not sure you'd realise what it represented unless you were already familiar with the Mac os Address Book app (the way it's shown here, it doesn't even look like an address book).
And what on earth is the sunflower all about? Why not a picture of a camera, or the photographic element of the Preview icon? It doesn't strike me as an obvious way of representing people's photograph collections.

It's a bit of a mess, in my opinion.

You copy other companies' websites?

Absolutely. So does Apple.

Intelligent professionals attempt to learn from their own mistakes... and the really intelligent ones learn from the mistakes of others. I wouldn't be doing my due diligence if I didn't keep up with the current market and what the branding leaders are up to.

MobileMe is going to be used for people with either just a mac, a mac + iphone, or a iphone + windows. Everyone with an iPhone can recognize those icons whether they have a mac or not. In fact, that flower icon is on the iphone itself. So, the people using this web application will definitely know what those are.

so from the looks of the responses apple should have named it Mobile Meh :D

Yea..I agree its a little too playful, but the marketing execs probably figured that more than 50% of the iPhone users are/will be women (hence the girly nature of the logo and the addition of the white plastic iPhone) Am I too far off here?

I watched the wwdc keynote monday evening when it came out. When I saw the MM name and logo, my first and now lasting thought was, "I want that service but I can't show or tell a friend because it looks so weak".

No, unfortunately I don't think you're right here... Half of iPhone users are NOT women. It's probably more like 30%. Obviously I can't tell you that for a fact... but I would be very surprised if it was more than 35%.

I don't really care about the name. I'm just gonna call it what it's always been for me-dot mac. It's a lot less of a mouthful, sounds more apple-ish, and less girlish.

I have to agree with a lot of the others on here, it looks like it was designed by Microsoft, and just brings back memories of one of their worst OS efforts - Windows Me.

Personally, I've checked out .mac, and I wouldn't use most of it's features on a regular basis, so I'm just staying away, whatever they decide to call it.

I don't mind the name that much, its growing on me a little but don't like the cursive me in the logo.

yeah.... I think mac.com sounds better for email too. Also, will emails directed at mac.com addresses automatically go to the me.com address?

Did Apple recently higher infants to cut and paste for their graphic design department?

I'm with you fivepoint. That logo looks like it came from Crapple, not Apple.

Personally, I don't get the "MobileMe" designation/title. It reminds me more of Windows Me than of Apple or an Apple product. Why didn't they continue their "i" theme and call it "iMobile" instead? iPhone users would definitely think that matches up with their phone concept (even Windows users) and Mac users would certainly identify with it given i-everything else in the Apple world. Maybe it's a nice break from that "i-everything", but MobileMe just doesn't fit in with either the Mac or iPhone concepts, IMO. iMobile might be owned by someone else already, though? Then why not iGo or iTravel or iHome or even iSurf or something that reminds you of what the service is about AND that it's an Apple service. AppleMobile even would better than MobileMe, IMO. Unless, of, course they plan to rename iPhone 2.0 into PhoneMe or something.... :D

It definitely had a "windows" feel to it when I first saw it. Which maybe is what Apple is going for. I'm not loving the logo but I don't hate it either.

good point, which I concede.

I still hate the bloody thing! ;)

I meant if someone emails an email to my .mac address which of course ends with @mac.com, will it automatically go to my new @me.com address, or do I have to tell everyone that I have a new address?

that'll be a relief... I do NOT want to have to email everyone telling them who I am, not to mention all the websites I'd have to update my email address for.

And for all we know, that could be the intended result. Who knows what percentage of iPhone/iPod touch users aren't Mac users as well?

TBH i'm just looking forward to a faster dotmac service with more features which looks way better on the browser etc etc..
I dotn really care what the logo is for anything so long as it works.
I like my mac because it works, its fast, reliable and easy to use.
Not because of the Apple logo.
Of course I appreciate that apple are the designer pc company in a way, but I think theyre just trying to open the dotmac service up to more iPhone users, hence more Doze users.
