I was watching some other phone's tv ads the other day and it dawned on me that most of the tv ads for mobiles that i've seen, don't seem to concentrate on showing the device in use, choosing instead to focus on some sort of fictional scenario or some such thing, with very little of the device being used as you would use it.
Okay, I know the iPhone ads have been speeded up somewhat, but at least the focus is just on the device.
The ads I saw, were for the Storm, N96, Pixon & Renoir(in the UK).

Just a thought, as to what marketing approach is more effective.

Yes, I'm a bit bored at work. :D

Well, AT&T loves the fictional commercials... like that one where some guy and his girlfriend are at a coffee shop and the guy uses his phone as a mirror to check out some other girl haha, but the Storm commercials (for Verizon anyway) show the phone in use. I sure the screen images are simulated but still.

Ahh. It must be a UK thing then.

No, no. That is definitely big here in the US too. I would say most mobile phone ads have nothing to do with the phone itself, but rather how cool the people that use them are.

Here are a few (some are in foreign countries, but they are shown in the US too). The last one is the dumbest, it doesn't even show the phone.

Really? Do those ads actually sell phones?
