Can we use iphone touch as mobile phone? (calling people, people calling you)

I think you can do VOIP (Skype etc) but there is no way the iPod touch will function as mobile phone.

If it did, why invent the iPhone?

Edit: I just read that again. iPhone touch? Umm, you've mixed 2 products together. There's an iPod touch and an iPhone.
 
Actually, there are a couple apps you can download that makes your ipod touch a phone. One of which is Truphone. You are required to pay for calls like using a cell, but it does work. Granted, you can only use it via wi-fi, but it gives you a dialer. Now, in order to have someone hear you talk, you'll need headphones/mic connected to the device. But I've tried it and it definitely allows you to make calls.
