Hi all, old BB user here. I have now got sim activation (although no 3G signal) and have set up my emails to push via MobileMe. Here's what I did and how I am using it, if anyone has a better solution then please let me know:

Basically on my iphone I have added all my normal email addresses (6 of them) plus the MobileMe one.

In gmail I have set it up (in each email address) so copies of all emails are forwarded to my MobileMe account.

So now all emails go instantly to MobileMe when they hit google and are then instantly forwarded to the iphone.

Downside is that all emails come into the mobileme inbox but you can reply choosing the email address you want it to go from so for anyone else they are still emailing you and getting replies from your chosen email and not mobileme.

I also got around the chore of having to select account, then inbox, then view messages - just leave it on the mobileme inbox (when you exit email) and when you open up emails they are there.

Okay so it is not perfect but I can live with it for now. It doesn't really sync with the laptop and I will get emails now both on the macbook and iphone so when I get home I will have to delete the ones I've read but it kinda works and thats good for me.

    Anyone got a better solution?

Did u disable the gmail accounts on ur computer? Cause I'm guessing if you just had the mobileme account on ur computer, it would sync up.

Personally, I'd be fine if the iPhone actually pulled at the 15 minute intervals as advertised for the GMail....for some reason [still] it can not even accomplish that.

didn't disable gmail accounts on computer. This system works fine so I don't want to mess with it. As it stands it works how I want it to now so unless there are better suggestions, or gmail do push I think this will do for me.

Okay I found a problem with my system. When I go to read the emails in my mobileme inbox, the other accounts pull and I get a double email in the normal email box. Anyone got any ideas how to stop this?

I have it on manual check but when you go into email that starts a check

In the preferences on the iPhone, set all of the gmail accounts to fetch manually. Then they shouldn't check for mail unless you want them too. Also, you might want to set the gmail settings to archive the message on the server.

I do have it set on manuel but when I go into the email it starts to search automatically.

How d I get gmail to archive it? I am using pop should I be using IMAP and if so what is the difference and how do I change it. Would I also have to change it on my macbook mail?

You can set it to archive forwarded email from within Gmail settings in your gmail account online. I'm not sure if POP vs. IMAP would make a difference for this, but IMAP is obviously the better service for other reasons.

    Here is what I did:

Since I had a bunch of folders with my GMAIL setup.

I used Mail.app to drag and drop those folders into the MobileMe account. This copies over all of my old emails and organization system. I now have gmail setup to forward to my mobileme account and I have stopped using gmail.
