Some MobileMe users are having difficulties accessing their MobileMe mail today. Macgasm noticed it first, and some of the staff at MacRumors have been having sporadic difficulties connecting via both IMAP and the MobileMe member page at me.com.

Apple's MobileMe system status page states the obvious:
Some MobileMe members may be unable to access MobileMe Mail. Normal service will be restored ASAP. We apologize for any inconvenience.
But, Apple is aware of the problem and is actively working to fix it.

MobileMe subscribers don't get a service level agreement, or SLA, for their $99 annual subscription fee, and Apple notes in the MobileMe terms of service that the service is provided "as is" and on an "as available" basis, and provides no warranty that the "service will be timely, uninterrupted, secure or error-free".

Haven't noticed any problems with MobileMe Mail in Mail.app or on my iPhone today, and I was able to log in to me.com and access my email just fine now after reading this article. So it must only be affecting some users currently.

Maybe they are working on something behind-the-scenes that will be announced for iOS 5 or Lion?

In any case, hope it's fully functional (or as fully functional as it gets) for everyone soon; it's pretty unacceptable for a paid email service to have significant unannounced downtime in this day and age, SLA or no.

I'm thinking of asking for a refund if they go free this year. MobileMe has become a running joke in my family because I mention every once in a while that something about MobileMe isn't working for me, and my family can't understand why I don't use Gmail. My excuse is lame. I stubbornly wanted to keep the same e-mail address I've had since December 2000, when I signed up with iTools.

Apple really struggles in the way they approach Internet services, and their support is terrible for MobileMe. Pretty much every time I have had an e-mail interaction with MobileMe or iTunes support, they don't read or understand the e-mail the first time.

Having said that, my MobileMe e-mail today is OK, knock on wood.

Who the heck wrote that title, someone from Yahoo? The title has nothing to do with the content, talk about sensationalism. The title makes it sound like MM mail has lost tons and tons of messages, instead of having access issues.

Yeah I agree.

I thought I was missing messages, from what the title suggests. It should be, "MobileMe Mail Connection Issues".

IMO, it is missing messages. I can go to the website and see my inbox, but mail that would normally appear instantly doesn't arrive for a while.

I've noticed this today only.

It isn't missing, as it is on the server - you just confirmed that you could read it on the website. If it doesn't appear in your Mail inbox, then it's because of a connection issue.

A missing email would be one that disappeared from your inbox after you had received it (and reappear hours later).

Sorry, I should have been clearer.

When I said that I could "see my inbox" I meant that me.com/mail loads fine and tells me that I have no new messages. There isn't an error. Messages that should have arrived by now aren't displayed on me.com or on my phone.

I'm not using a different Mail client (I only use me.com and my iPhone) - both are exhibiting the same delays in mail actually appearing.

Others have noted similar problems on other sites (email being slow to arrive).

Worst title for a 1st page article I've ever seen here. Who writes this crap?

Only people who want their data hacked stolen or lost, use gmail.

This is so true. A little while ago I started getting all these undeliverable email alerts in Chinese and noticed a ton of outgoing messages in my sent folder all in Chinese. I contacted Google and they said it was because my password was not strong enough. Huh? So it was my fault? I had already used a strong password and only used that for gmail and someone still hacked it. Since then I do not use gmail for anything confidential.

I've been having a couple of issues with it today, seems to be fine now though.

Mine's been weird, Mail has been (re)fetching thousands of emails again from my MobileMe inbox; and the status icon has been up and down over the last day.

So this basically confirms my suspicions that the May 22 rumor has to do with MobileMe/iCloud. I expect to see more downtime and "schedule maintenance" leading up to the official unveiling.

Wait, you got a response from Google? They have people that answer the phones? All I can ever find is a youtube video of FAQs or a maze of websites. For a huge company, they have ZERO customer service.
