mobileme not recognising my itunes user id

    Having issues trying to activate the find my ipad on mobile me.

    I have done everything as per instructions and checked my itunes account that i have the correct user id and password, even changed password.

    Still no joy, would it have anything to do with it being linked to a hotmail account?

    dumb question, but have you updated your ipad to the latest version of iOS?

    Yep, both my imac and ipad are up to date with the latest software.

    Tried it with just my user id and then with user id email just does not want to work!

    By the sounds of it, your user ID is not the same as your primary e-mail address for the account.

    Apple used to allow users to change their user ID to a non-e-mail ID. My iTunes account is an example of one of these that uses a username as opposed to an e-mail address. However they have recently removed the option of doing this, presumably for the new Find My iPhone / iPad functionality. It now appears to detect the difference between MobileMe e-mail addresses and iTunes account addresses by the e-mail domain and so a username no longer seems to work.

    I see two options to solve your problem, assuming my theory is correct.
    1. Update your iTunes account name to be your e-mail address for the account.
    2. Create a second iTunes account solely for Find my iPhone / iPad. This should be able to use the same e-mail address for the username as the one of your current account as it appears not to be taken up because of your failed attempts to log in using it.

    I would personally choose option 2 as I would not want to get rid of my iTunes username.
