mobileMe with iPad and iPhone, together...

I've just upgraded (hope not wasted...) to the yearly mobileMe account, to try having a simple single source of (personal) syncing between the iPhone and my new iPad 3G.

Issue: I've contacts in two folders, on the iPhone: why cannot these contacts (+/- 400 per folder) be sync'ed with mobileMe online contacts? (I've enabled contact syncing, with merge option).
Online mobileMe and iPad contact lists have currently only a single contact...

Any ideas? TIA

Note: Italian localisation for addresses and phone numbers is not supported (incredible for a country that has bought a large number of iPhones and - now - iPads...)
