Can anyone enlighten me as to if the IPad is MobileMe aware like the IPhone?

It is. Just set up the MobileMe when you input your email settings and it will sync up just like that.

Also supports Find My iPad (though it would have to be connected to a WiFi), remote wipe, send a message to it, play a sound, etc.
