Modern 4k GPU with boot screen support for 5.1

Hi all,

I have a 5.1 and are looking for a competent GPU which supports 4k and bootscreen.

Is there anything I can buy off the shelf? Not requiring anything serious, no gaming, only occasional FCP work.

Your only ‘off the shelf’ options are used mac cards like quadro k5000, sapphire 7950.
Otherwise you need a flashed card as above link.
Do you really need boot screen?
An AMD RX580 pulse works out of the box, but no boot screen.

7950 CANNOT show boot screen on 4K display in DP 1.2 (but DP1.1 is fine).

Thanks for the info guys, I ended up purchasing a flashed GTX980.

The main reason I want boot screen support is I don't want to run into a situation where my machine won't boot and I can't see anything on the screen to diagnose the issue.

Was previously running a 7950 and had to put my display in DP1.1 for the boot screen which was fine. Unfortunately this card has since died.
