Modern Buckle + 42mm = possible?

Apparently, Apple doesn't offer the Modern Buckle on a 42mm case. But are the two compatible? And how do I pre-order the combo? There doesn't seem to be an option to buy just the watch case without any band.

That's right. You can't buy a watch case without a band. The closest you'll get is to buy a model that includes the sport band which is only $50 and probably not a band thing to keep around just in case anyway.

That said, the connectors are size-specific so your 38mm band won't fit properly in a 42mm case.

No, that would change the aspect ratio and make development for the watches a bigger pain in the ass. The width varies by a few mm. You can see the measurements at the bottom of the detail page for the watches on Apple's site. It isn't something we have to guess about, fortunately.

Yeah, the same way the Leather Loop is only on 42mm.
