No, not a browser plugin. It's a real website(s).

Visit https://searx.space/ to search for instances of Searx that other people made which you can use as your search engine.

Optionally, one can build their own Searx instance with a VPS, which is what I did.

So it not some browser add on or plugin but own search engine and browser?

So it does not pull the entries from the other search engines? Example if you search for 1920 Ford car it does not go out to yahoo search, bing search and google search grab those entries and pull it under one?

It is own search engine and own browser? But it does not pull entries from the other search engines?

You built you own search engine and own browser?

No. It's a meta-search engine. It pulls the results of your query from search engines like Google, Bing, Wikipedia and so forth. It then aggregates the results and displays them for you just like a regular search engine.

The advantage is that Searx queries all those search engines on your behalf and you remain unknown and anonymous to Google, Bing and the others because to them, all they saw making the query was a Searx instance and not your computer, tablet or mobile device.

Searx instances are websites like any other website.

So Searx acts as proxy? All they see is the Searx server not your devices?

I think maybe because they sell keywords to the highest bidder. You don't see results for "X" you see the link to the person who paid for his website to come up when you search for "X".

My understanding is that Yahoo+DDG use Bing search engine so the results should be same or similar. There is a french startip called Qwant , see if their results appeal to you

Only a decade ago, if you searched for answers to questions about Macs and Mac-related software you would get really helpful results from legitimate community sources. These days you have to sift through hundreds of junk sites recycling identical information so they can push their 'repair/cleaning/optimization/whatever' software. I imagine they either buy a lot of ads or they look like 'content' so the engines aren't interested in filtering them.

It not only makes searching for what you need a lot slower, it's likely the reason your grandma has malware.
