Hello,

I have just installed Mojave on my old MacPro 4.1, with a updated firmware to 5.1 // all under 10.9.5, with my 10 years old GK Nvidia GeForce GT 120 - 512 MByte // via VGA cable to a brand new pre-formatted SSD - aka --> Dosdude1 method ;-) , No problems, everything works fine ... but not in the correct resolution (40 "- 4K UHD - 3840 x 2160) - which I expected so far :) - The startup manager for booting (" alt key ") available only under 10.9.5 w. & only with the old GT120 .. with the GTX 680 only the Command + R // Recovery mode available ;-) or under the system control under starting volume.

Question:
Why is Mojave not running with the GTX 680? in APFS ???? (Runs perfect in 60 HZ / 4K with the 10.9.5 - I can't understand why with an old GT 120s, but not with a flashed GTX 680s ?? First of all, I heard that it should actually run without the NVIDIA driver with the standard drivers from Apple? - On the other hand, everyone is waiting for the still unpublished Mojave driver from NVIDIA ??

Maybe some tricks & tips? - (Boot-ROM-Version: MP51.007F.B03)

Thanks for that

C.

If you run the legacy video patcher to add support to the 120, you wont be able to use the 680/kepler drivers anymore

Thank you Saudor !!!!
Very valuable info !!!! Now I understand !!! That's exact what I did. The legacy patcher is running completely unessesary under 5.1 - but works fine with the 120 - just the resolution is for my 40" 4 K monitor (3840x2160) incorrect. So what to do ? What driver nr. did you recommend for the 680 ??? - recently driver for 10.9.5 is: 334.01.03f11

Thanks for reply in advance ;-)

You will likely need to reinstall macOS but when you run the patcher, leave the legacy video patcher unchecked. Your 680 should still work in mavericks (i believe 10.8.2 is the minimum for kepler graphics)

All resolved now ! - I had reinstalled Mojave on a SSD partition...(preformatted as journaled ! not APFS ! because I wanna switch back and forth between 10.9.5. and 10.14.5 for several works I did on both systems) ...total without use of the patcher !! Didn't need it because it's a 5.1 .....all from a install stick with my old 150 - all takes 10 min - put then back my 680 and boot - all fine now - running in 4k (3840x2160) - 40" display in 60 HZ now - over a DP cable :) P.S. Bootrom MP51.0085.B00 from HS - Q: What really "useful" improvement in reg. to "Microcodes" would I have if I used the latest bootrom? -> 140.0.0.0.0 - I saw the list of page on in the forum -but I don't really see for ma a improvement there - exept MvME with the 140.0.0.0.0 with NVMe support ;-)
