I'm still on Mojave on my 13" 2015 MBp, is it safe to update straight to Monterey? How does it run performance wise on my machine?

I'm a web dev, so Node and homebrew are 'vital' for my workflow, are there incompatibilities?

I don't see problems upgrading to Monterey on your machine but:
- do you really need it? I suggest upgrades only if needed, for work
- keep the possibility to revert to Mojave (how is your backup system organized? TM, Carbon Copy Cloner or what else?) If the upgrade is problematic. Please note TM includes also the OS into the backup but as from Big Sur this feature is gone.
- about your needings (Node and homebrew and any other sw) check on the developer's site. It's the best way.

Anyone do the upgrade from Mojave to Monterey w/o issue?
i recently went from mojave to bug sur 11.6 when it came out. Performance was a bit degraded but wasnt as bad as the earlier bug sur versions. It was definitely tolerable so i decided to stay

Moved to montelame since reddit/this site was praising it. It's substantially better performing and even better than Mojave.

That being said, i still have a copy of my mojave install archived just in case

yes, it is very safe to upgrade,

I have a mbp 13inch 2015, I use external ssd to install monterey. and it runs as fast as mojave.

Those are really good news! I'm going to update for sure when I finish this project that I'm working on :D

I'm in the same boat. Am still on Mojave and am a bit weary about upgrading as my iMac is very fast performing on Mojave but if I upgrade I think it'll be to Montery ashat seems like another Snow Leopard.

You installed Monterey from an external SSD to your MBP internal SSD or you installed Monterey to an external SSD with Mojave still on your internal SSD?

I had Mojave on my mid-2015 15" MBP, but Adobe's major new update to Lightroom Classic and Photoshop were not compatible with Mojave. So, it forced me to update to Monterrey first. Although I was reluctant, I decided to do it. Installation was easy with no issues. I then updated LR and PS with no problem. So far, LR and PS are working fine under Monterrey with no perceptible loss in speed.

I install Monterey from usb flash driver to external SSD using iMac 2017, and then disconnect external SSD from iMac 2017 and connect it to MBP 13inch 2015 to run Monterey.

MBP 13inch 2015 internal SSD and external SSD are in same speed 500MB/s

yeah, I'm in the same boat so going to have update from Mojave as well. Bother.

Hey guys, I’ve decided to upgrade from Mojave to Monterey and not sure if I have a problem or not but has been installing now for 7 hours….I get that it’s probably a massive upgrade but curious as to how long it took for you? Mine seems to be at the apple logo screen with the instal bar so close to complete but been like that for a while…I have a Mac (late 2015)….I just can’t tell if I have an issue or not….nervous as hell

Mikkib,
Something went wrong with your install. I just updated a late 2015 iMac and a 2018 Macbook Pro and both went quickly, I'd say no more than a 1/2 hour or so for each. Monterey has some pretty cool features and the updated UI is refreshing. So far I've experienced no problems at all on either computer.
I installed Parallels Desktop 17 to run Mojave VM for a few 32 bit apps which I run in Coherence Mode, which is pure genius. Updated to CCC 6, the latest BusyCal as well as the latest Keyboard Maestro. Pretty painless procedure. If your running any Objective-See apps make sure to update those as well. Oversight wouldn't let go of the processor but after it's update it was fine.

I've done the update from Mojave to Monterey directly. I was still surprised that, while I noticed a bit more RAM in used after launch, everything was fine.

The only issue I had: I made a clean Time Machine after the update, then re-installing Monterey once more with a Clean Install. From here I wanted to recover my backup, my Time Machine was recognised but that was impossible to click on Continue to let the recovery process starting... fortunately I had another backup on SD card.

Monster-Bay has serious memory leaks across the board. I have to keep
Activity Monitor open all the time in an unused desktop to keep an eye on it, and I have to shut down at night so I can start with a clean slate in the morning. Safari’s various caches keep growing to more and more and more all the time.

Keep your recovery key handy as this morning my late 2015 iMac wouldn't wake from sleep when I entered my password. Fortunately the recovery key unlocked it.
I updated a week ago from Mojave and I've had only one other problem which was the monitor control switched the screen into super bright mode with the slider adjustment greyed out requiring a reboot to reset it.
That issue hasn't recurred.

Is it worth adding the caveat that regardless of reversion methods, some downgrades may not be possible?
What I mean is that suppose Apple sneak a firmware upgrade in, it may not be able to go back..........

How do you find a recovery key?

hey guys,
I updated my MacBook Pro 2017 from high Sierra to Mojave I can see a huge issue on the performance.
I means it looks nice but the performance is not that good sometimes even for basic stuff using safari etc.
But also I am using after effects photoshop etc.. and is slower..
So my question is should I upgrade from Mojave to Monterey??
Because I can't stand this.

We have a 2015 MBP. Upgraded the SSD to 500 gb and put Mojave on it (from El Cap). I noticed the other day it was damn slow. The 8 gb ram probably doesn’t help but neither does the slow CPU. The M1 pro with 16gb ram sitting next to it running Monty is blazing fast.

try to do fresh install Monterey rather than upgrading from old os.

mac os upgrading becomes more and more tricky.

A fresh install will help If it remains slow past a day while it indexes. I upgraded an unsupported 2010 with 8gb and it was blazing fast.

Now we are at Monterey 12.4 do you still have the same opinion on memory leaks?
Thanks √

I upgraded around the beginning of the year (2015 MBP 15) and it was okay as I wasn't using the system very much but ran into a network problem that I've seen on Big Sur and Monterey and went back to Mojave yesterday. I've seen the network problem on four systems (two Intel, two Apple Silicon) and would rather avoid it if possible.
