As I'm sure you know, trying to guess at a particular individual's motivation without a full evaluation of the individual is pretty much a useless endeavor.

But...my first association was to think of anorexia. One theory is that the issue is control. The anorexic (and perhaps this woman) supposedly feel they are not in control of their lives, and the only thing they can control is what they eat, or not eat.

One might extrapolate to this woman that it has to do with feeling not in control of many aspects of her life, but can control the obviously pathological level of tanning.

All that is pretty wild and generic speculation...without the opportunity to evaluate the woman.

I'm sure mscriv might give you a better guess than mine

If you could talk to that woman in your office with a straight face, I salute you.

FYI, I just saw a preview of her as one of the stories on the nightly news in my area. Jeez, she looks even worse than the video I linked to.

ROFLMAO... this is for the win.... Best line of the day!

iJH: For every one FTW, 100 Fails. :D

anyone see the mugshot photo floating around the news?

I saw the video, and was shocked. She looks nothing like that lighter picture, but looks horrible in both anyways.

Come on guys she sees herself as Barbie! Or a real house wife of New Jersey! That's all that matters.

And LOL at iJH - 44 "And going on luggage."

Some people seem to get a sort of body dysmorphia with regard to tanning. It's a strange obsession and inability to see themselves for how they actually are. It doesn't mean she took her daughter into a tanning bed. I would hope not, anyway.

Definitely some degree of body dysmorphism. When she looks in the mirror she sees something different than the rest of us see (but then don't we all, to admittedly a lesser degree?).

Hopefully she won't project her issues onto her daughter.

She will keep some dermatologist busy.

After getting past the apparent child abuse, have a look at this mom. Wow! How can people not know what they look like???

That is just appalling, the image made feel sick. She is headed fro melanoma if she continues this obsession...May already be too late...I just can't see the attraction with these sun beds. The individual in the image does perhaps deserve a little sympathy, she clearly has an addiction and needs psychiatric attention.

HOLY COW!!! Doesn't she know that much tanning could lead to all kinds of problems. Cancer is the first one that comes to my mine. :roll eyes:

How does she not see what she's doing to her skin? :(

That is the question.

But I wonder ...

What are we doing to ourselves that likewise leaves a mark? Sure, she's an extreme example. But we all "mark" ourselves in one way or another with our habits and idiosyncrasies. We laugh at her. But can we laugh at ourselves?

:D

She looks like a burned potato with a wig. I bet you could make a coat out of her leathery skin.

How does she not see what she's doing to her skin? :(

i can't believe she think she actually looks good like that... I wonder what dermatologist are thinking :p
