If I hadn't just bought a new SSD, I would definitely be taking the risk. I have had the 500 for some time and nothing but good to say about it. I wish you luck and hope that you have the same good fortunes as I have had with my 500 XT.

Well... I'm getting the momentus XP 750GB. I currently have a 750GB (the slow 5400rpm) and use TM to a RAID 1 NAS. I'll use carbon copy to install it and keep the other drive for a while. Someone has to try it. With the warranty, I'll take the risk. Everything is backed up and if the drive takes a turn for the worst I have my old one to keep me going.

I'll report back after Xmas. I'll install sd28 (or the latest) and see what happens. If it lasts a couple years in time for SSD's with high capacity to become commonplace and economically feasible it may just work out. I'm not willing to give up the optical drive since I watch DVD's.

Thanks for all the replies and even the negative viewpoint firsthand. It made me rethink things, but I think it's worth a shot. Someone has to put forth the risk and become a guinea pig for tech support.

Pretty much right with you. Ordered yesterday, it ships today.
Mine is a 2010 13" with a 500gb. Been wanting a 750 at a faster speed for a few months. I almost got the Scorpio black then the price went up about $80 so I waited. Then this came out and it's just what I needed. As far as the price goes, it's the same with any hard drive at the moment so I don't see it as being an expensive drive. If you are buying right now you simply are going to be paying a little more.
This is a nice upgrade for me, and it seems they have fixed the issues with the previous model so I'm hopeful.
Only thing, can anyone verify if the 2010 is 3gb/s or 6?
I'm thinking 3 and that's fine with me as long as it works it's way better than what I'm using now.

Just checked 2010 is 3gb/s and the drive specs state support for 6,3, and 1.5.

Good Laptopmag review:

I just installed a new 500GB XT in my MBP late 2011. It's running flawless again, same like in my previous MBP. Battery life seems unaffected, which seems different to my previous experience. Boot time under SL was 19 seconds, under Lion it's now 25 seconds.

I switched to using Deep Sleep now. Waking from power off takes only 10 seconds :)
