Hi there. I'm wanting to upgrade my monitor, but as time goes by monitor tech gets more complicated and/or I'm less able to know what the tech specs mean :confused:

My main desire is to have text on the screen as crisp as possible - ideally as good as my MBP's screen. I don't game on my Mac, so no gaming needs that need to be considered.

The MBP is an 3.1 GHz Dual-Core Intel Core i5, 16GB RAM and has came with Intel Iris Plus Graphics 650 1536 MB.

I have no desire to add anything (other than a new monitor) to my set up.

What is the max resolution I can hope for, and is Freesync anything of relevance for me? Ideally I want my monitor to act as a USB C hub. The charger that came with my MBP is 61W... doe that mean that a monitor that has a 60W USB C output won't keep my laptop on 100%?

Sorry - loads of questions.

Thanks in advance

Check the LG 5K. Not cheap, but it does what you mentioned.

Youch, Not chep at all. If I was spending that much I'd probably buy an iMac and keep the MBP for out of office use. Am currently looking at these, but not sure which is best/best value/most compatible/best screen for largely text based stuff. So much jargon!

as good as the Apple thunderbolt displays from a few years back? The ones that had that funny split cable thing. I remember seeing them in the office I was in at the time and they looked pretty good

4K would be better res than the old TB display.

Gotcha. Thanks for the advice. Last question... assuming not all 4K monitors are the same, what other than price and amount & type of connections are the main things I should look for? IPS, FreeSync..?

I have the USB-C LG 4K (the old one that came out in 2016), works great with my 2017 13". Charges, looks awesome, I use the USB-C ports on the monitor for my Lightning cable and ethernet
