Now that my new MM is on its way, it's time for a new monitor too.
Looking at the BenQ BL2420PT (24" 2560x1440) which has all possible connections (DP1.2, hdmi1.4, dvi, vga), so it's up to me to decide to use the MM's hdmi out (with a quality hdmi cable) or one of the usb-c ports (with a usb-c to dp cable). As the former is much cheaper than the latter, is there any reason to NOT go for hdmi -> hdmi? (slower to wake, for instance?)

I have an hdmi 2 port on my samsung which also has built in speakers so I’ll go hdmi to hdmi. Don’t know how hdmi 1.4 is. I do have a dp to hdmi 2 dongle for our imac 2013 that works surprisingly well on the same monitor.

For 1440p...
...if the HDMI works, use it.

If the HDMI gives you problems, switch to a USB-c (Mac end) to displayport (display end) cable/adapter.
