    Hi all

I hope this isn't too stupid a question, but it appears that my old 20" Dell monitor has a capacitor problem...when it turns on, it takes up to a few minutes for the monitor to come into focus...so, before I replace the mini, I thought I'd get a new monitor to tide me over.

The monitor I am considering has two port options...HDMI and VGA. My mini has mini-DVI and Display Port.

I know I can connect from the miniDVI to HDMI, but was wondering if I can connect from Display Port to HDMI and whether there is any advantage in doing so. I guess the question is also, which path is best?

Is the main difference the audio signal?

    Thanks

    John

Nope. There's no difference at all.

The 2009 mini's Mini DisplayPort won't do audio over HDMI.

There will only be difference if you get a monitor with a resolutions greater than 1920x1200. In that case you will need to use the Mini DP connector and buy the appropriate cable to connect to the monitor if it's not included.
