Mac Mini Connection

Will a Mac Mini (late 2012) TB port to mini Display port-DVI adapter to DVI cable to Dell Ultrasharp U2412M monitor cause any issues in anyone's experience?

hooked up to the Mini via miniDP to DP through the Thunderbolt port.

If you check your Thunderbolt bus Port Status in Systems Information, does it show a device connected?

Well, I tried that connection, and I am having a problem where the TB port drops the video signal when I put the Mini to sleep.

Also, the TB Port Status in Systems Information states: "No device connected".

I changed from the HDMI to the Mini DisplayPort connected to a U2412m yesterday and so far no video dropouts 24 hours later.

I too would be interested in knowing what DisplayPort to Mini DisplayPort cable you guys use. The only one I can find is startech one from amazon.

I use Apple's cable with a list price of $29 but it can sometimes be found on sale.

I'm looking at purchasing the same monitor for my 2012 mac mini. Did you wind up exchanging your monitor for a new one because of the dead pixel?
Naw, I am going to keep it. For a monitor of such high resolution and pixel density i think it is going to be hard for me to receive a perfect monitor from amazon (esp with the way they do monitor shipping). Honestly, i've been using it for a couple weeks now and I can't even see the dead pixel. It's a dead red sub pixel anyways, so its incredibly hard to see even when the screen is pure white, black, green or blue.

Any reason to use this instead of the HDMI to HDMI that I'm currently using?

I don't know if there is any. On a dual monitor setup, my experience is that the os will prefer the thunderbolt/mdp monitor for startup login, regardless of where you place the menu bar, but that's a minor quibble.

Does the Dell have a display port?

If so buy this thunderbolt to diplays port cable. It's one wire, no adapter and good for 2560 x 1440 resolution plus sound and it's cheap also.

http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B004CAGDUA/ref=oh_details_o02_s00_i00

I have it running with my Asus 27 PB278Q monitor and everything works nicely!

I've got a Dell u2412m which doesn't have HDMI. I was originally going to use HDMI, but didn't realise the Dell didn't have it.

In the market for a new monitor and I am considering the Asus 27 PB278Q. I'd like to know if the display has a heavy AG coating like on the Dell U2412M? Do you have any stuck or dead pixels?

I'm using the HP 2311xi and really like it. Previously had the 2006 iMac, which had a nice matte screen. This HP reminds me of it.

Look for a deal on the HP 2311xi. I got mine for $149 at Future Shop last month.

I'm hooked up with the HDMI-to-DVI-D adapter. I get the black-out screen problems everyone's been getting but that problem seems to happen less frequently lately.

When I hooked up via the T-Bolt port, I had a problem where the video signal got dropped when I put the Mini to sleep, and then the monitor wouldn't stop looking for a video signal, so I went back to HDMI out.

add $50 for 16gig ram (gskill via newegg) and $40 ext dvd (samsung via amazon) and she should be set for a while...

Caught me there for a sec. Did you say 16GB for $50?? I paid $70 per meg, for a total of 8MB for $560 in 1993. That would be $1,146,880 today.

Good god.

Anyway. On the monitor question ...

I want to hook up two old DVI monitors to a potential Mac Mini but need to have a backup solution. If I use the thunderbolt port for one display and the HDMI port for the other, I'd have no choice but to use FW800/USB2/3 for the external is that correct? The thunderbolt port becomes useless for any other use, unless it's a true thunderbolt display, correct?

Glossy or matte screen? Thank you.

It's a matte screen but it's not a heavy Anti-Glare coating like some have complained about on other monitors. It's really like the Apple matte screen on my 2006 iMac.

really Thank you; will check out; i am confused ever since i got this viewsonic VA2212M-LED.

Dell Ultra Sharp U2412M

Loving the Dell Ultra Sharp with my late 2012 Mini. It's bright, everything looks so much better.

Took some photos at the SD Zoo today and the Post processing was so easy because the colors, highlights and shadows are shown accurately.

$295 @ B&H w/ free shipping and No Cali sales tax :>)

How heavy is the packaging? I am bit worried about moving around 24" and space it takes on the desk. definitely excellent monitor in the 23/24" category.

Wish it was a 21.5" size.

we all can wish apple 21.5" thunderbolt display!!! (Same and skinny like 21.5" iMac) :)

I ordered a U2412M from Amazon. Their stated shipping weight is pretty light at about 16 lbs. The monitor itself is less than 10 lbs, I think. We have this monitor connected to our late 2012 Mini via a Monster DP-miniDP cable, and have had zero issues (knock on wood). I didn't know how good my Canon DSLR's pictures were until I saw them on this monitor! I too was a bit worried about the 24" size in our smallish-office and on our small desk, but I've found it to be a perfect size. I would buy this monitor again.
