Just wondering if anyone has noticed a monitor not looking as sharp when connecting through one of the $99 Apple DVI --> Mini DisplayPort adapters. The reason I ask is because lately, I've thought my Dell monitor looked a little different than my 30" ACD right next to it. I thought maybe my eyes were just getting fatigued from too much staring at it, or maybe it was just a difference in quality. I realize they're different monitors all together, being that one cost $120 and the other $1200 (refurbished), but just tonight I switched out my 5870 card for my GTX 285 card to run a test, and I noticed the Dell looked, well, sharper and more clear than it did prior to the switch.

It occurred to me that with the 5870, I have to run the Dell through my DVI to mDP adapter, but the GTX 285 has two DVI ports, so no adapter as both monitors are DVI. So, I thought maybe I was just imagining it, or perhaps there really is a difference that I didn't notice before.

Does anyone have any similar experience, or perhaps they feel like their eyes are fatigued when looking at a monitor hooked up via an adapter? Maybe I'm just dumb, and everybody already knows this. :p

There are a number of problems with the adapter. Usually the reports of issues with the display quality relate to heavy noise (snow/static) or screen flickering, but I have seen reports before where people who thought it was working fine had found it was of worse quality when they were able to put it in context. Keep in mind most people have one display and one system and with all the reports of it being a terrible product most people probably just settle if it displays an image that doesn't hurt their eyes.

The solution is to get one made by another company. It is one Apple product in recent years that Apple really messed up on.

Thank you. It's such a subtle difference, but at least now I know I'm not losing my mind.

Yeah the Apple DL DVI adapter is a POS.

I've had better luck with my Accell adapter.
