I was trying to connect my Mini to my HDTV, and I had no luck. I used displayconfigX to overwrite OS X's display settings, and rebooted. Now it's stuck at a resolution that neither my monitor or TV can display. I've tried resetting the PRAM, no luck. I tried logging in Single user mode. I went to /Library/Preferences and rm com.apple.loginwindow.plist, it asked to overwrite, I said y, and it said something about it was read-only. So I don't know if it changed it or not, whatever it did (or didn't) do, it didn't work.

I'm running OS X 10.4.10, but I don't have an install DVD here, it's from a Family Pack and my parents keep the discs as their home.

What other options do I have? Please help as soon as possible!

Thank you so much for any help.

Gosh, don't everyone rush to help me at once.

I figured out a solution.

Hold down shift while it boots. <--- goes to safe mode.

The Shift trick helped me out so thanks! I had the same monitor issue and it's likely in my case the monitor is on the fritz. I'd get the Out of Range error every other boot, and from there all I could do is kill the power because it's useless at that point.

So five years later, thanks! Shift got me through more than once.
