This isn't anything to do with the Mac as such but the (non-Mac) monitor I use has recently started behaving weirdly-the picture keeps changing shape as if it's being squeezed from the sides, changes colour as if the inks are running and eventually blacks out. When things get really bad the monitor tries to switch itself off...BUT...
... if I put my hand on the screen, the problems disappear,at least for a short while-which seems to indicate that there's some static problem or somesuch. But obviously I don't want to be doing that for long...
Do I need a new monitor or is there a quick fix? It's worked fine for at least two years...
It's a LG electronics monitor,SCSI connection.

i highly doubt your monitor has a SCSI port. you need to degause your monitor. most monitors made in last 5 years or so have a menu panel in the front place. if there is a button that says "deguass" press it. if you have a menu button press and find the "deguass" option. that should help. if that doesn't you either have something causing the static like unshielded speakers or cables. other possibilities is your monitor cable is bad.

after you degauss move you monitor to a different computer and try it.
