I'm doing some research into buying some monitors so we can dual screen with the iMacs we have in the office. Can anyone give me some recommendations for good affordable 4k monitors?

Depends what model iMacs you have in the office. If they're pre-retina, then the best resolution they'll drive a monitor at is 2560 x 1600.

What size iMacs? Do you want screens the same size? What resolution do you run them at? Do you need/want the extras to be the same size/resolution? Do you want/need the UI to be displayed at the same relative size on the built in and external display? Do you need them to tilt/rotate?

Sorry I should have mentioned. These are the newest iMacs available: 27" Retina iMacs.

Ok so that just leaves these questions:

Yes generally the same size - so 27" and 4k resolution is fine. They don't have to have any fancy extras, just good monitors.

You realise your existing 27” iMac screens are 5k not 4K right? You can set a 4k screen to scale to the same visual size as the iMac screen but it may not appear quite as crisp/smooth.

This may or may not be a problem for your use case.

If you want the same panel but external only the LG ultrafine is gonna be the same physical size and resolution.
